Multi-passionate Michaela photographs and creates brands

Who are you?

I am a photographer, designer and creative consultant for online presence from the Czech Republic, permanently living in Finland. I photograph within the Helsinki region and I offer my services in English, Finnish and Czech.

What do you do for a living?

I help women see their own beauty and build online presence for their projects. In photography I specialize in using natural light. I mostly photograph portraits, but I shoot promo pictures for artists and entrepreneurs as well, including photos for social media. With my clients I usually work on the brand, develop the visual side – logo, business cards, set up their website, help with the content for social media, newsletters etc. I also help them get clarity, figure out their ideal clients and give them simple marketing strategies.

How did you end up light entrepreneuer?

I was considering starting my own business in the past and it became clear that without a solid customer base, investments and business skills it is not the best idea. It felt really overwhelming to navigate the Finnish business practices as a foreigner. I have a good grasp of Finnish, but trying to figure everything out sucked all the energy I should be putting into developing my products and services. When I discovered UKKO.fi, it felt like the right thing to do. For people like me, it is a life saver.

What is the best part of your job?

I get to work on interesting projects and help people directly. I am a multi-passionate creative person and I need variety. I’ve realized that I can help people who have a dream but are frustrated because they don’t know where to start and how to do things effectively. I’ve researched all kinds of tools and I can point them in a better direction. Through photography I help change women’s perceptions about themselves. I’m known for finding flattering angles. I believe every woman deserves beautiful photographs.

How does your typical work day look like?

I have many different projects, so it varies a lot. Apart from the creative side like photo shoots, website planning, graphic design and online/in person consulting sessions I do a lot of copywriting for my clients – website content, newsletters, social media posts and other marketing. In addition to creating meaningful and fun content for my own website and marketing, I try to stay aware of different trends online and some portion of my time always goes towards educating myself and testing new things.

How do you want to improve yourself?

I would definitely like to be better at selling my skills and do a better job at networking. I am pretty much an introvert and these things are not natural for me at all, but I am consistently taking little steps and finding ways how to be better without being too salesy.

Greetings and tips for other light entrepreneuers?

Don’t try to do everything alone, find a friend who can be your accountability partner. Keep learning and don’t give up when some things don’t work. There’s no such thing as overnight success.
